The basics

SimplyHiragana is a hiragana learning app developed by Catalyst Code ("we," "us," or "our"). Our goal: help you read Japanese. The app uses spaced repetition — a science-backed method that shows you characters right before you forget them — so five minutes a day adds up to real progress. No accounts, no login, no subscription required. SimplyHiragana is completely free.

Your license to use the app

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use SimplyHiragana for personal, non-commercial purposes. This means:

• You can: Use the app to learn hiragana on your personal devices linked to your Apple ID.
• You cannot: Copy, modify, distribute, sell, or reverse-engineer the app or its content.

Intellectual property

SimplyHiragana — including its design, code, curated character data, mnemonic hints, and spaced repetition implementation — is owned by Catalyst Code and protected by intellectual property laws. The hiragana characters themselves are part of the Japanese writing system and belong to no one. But our specific presentation, organization, and the way we've built the learning experience are our original work.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Use the app for any illegal purpose
• Attempt to interfere with or disrupt the app's functionality
• Scrape, harvest, or extract data from the app
• Misrepresent your identity or affiliation

We reserve the right to terminate access for users who violate these terms.

Disclaimer

We believe in being honest — no marketing speak, no promises we can't keep. SimplyHiragana is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. Here's what that means:

• We don't guarantee the app will be error-free or always available.
• We don't guarantee specific learning outcomes. Your results depend on consistent practice — five minutes a day adds up, but SimplyHiragana is one tool in your study toolkit.
• Character data is curated carefully, but we're human — occasional errors may exist. Report them to support@simplyhiragana.com and we'll fix them promptly.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Catalyst Code is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the app. Since SimplyHiragana is free, our total liability is limited to zero dollars, as no purchase was made.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms when the app evolves or when legal requirements change. If we make significant changes, we'll notify you through the app or update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the new terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction where Catalyst Code operates, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction.

Apple-specific terms

These additional terms apply to your use of SimplyHiragana on Apple devices:

• These Terms of Use are between you and Catalyst Code only, not Apple. Catalyst Code is solely responsible for the app and its content.
• Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app.
• In the event of any failure to conform to applicable warranties, you may notify Apple for a refund of the purchase price (if any). Apple has no other warranty obligation.
• Apple is not responsible for addressing any claims relating to the app or your use of it.
• Apple is a third-party beneficiary of these Terms of Use and may enforce them against you.
